#Oliveday @ Buffet Olives
My love for olives has been an on going affair, it extends to the fact that if I order a martini and there's no olives in there I send it back, so when I was invited to the Buffet Olives Farm in Paarl, I was excited to get some more incite on our more South African arrangement of how we get our delicious olives in our fridges, bars and restaurants.
I was in for more than I expected. What I expected was a mere tasting of olives, martini's and more olives, what more could you do at an olive event I thought, but then when I was whisked away at the back of a bakkie I knew there was more ahead than what i anticipated, I was a bit weary at first, in my head I was thinking, but I'm not cattle, then I thought about childhood memories and heading to the beach at the back of the bakkie and was in pure nostalgia and off we went up the mountain to be greeted with bubbly and olives and a view of the beautiful landscape of the farmlands and Cascade Country Manor, already off to a good start :)
From there we got a tour in the factory of the process of olives from tree to packaging and got to engage in the various machinery and happy and curious staff activities, got some deeper explanation of the different types of olives, origins and variants of that, I never knew that there was that much too know, but I was certainly intrigued, the aroma and atmosphere even though noisy was pleasant, a lot of love in the food process and precision and care in the whole production.
And then off we went to lunch at the beautiful Cascade Country Manor and I finally received the martini I was hoping for, olives and everything centered and welcoming
The Chef infused olives in his dishes he made, was an interesting texture and taste, very Mediterranean infused with South African cosine. some highlights of the meal below
